Bonnie Priever Curtain Up!

“Rockin’ With the Ages 3,”

The term ‘Olden is Golden’ definitely applies to the smash hit, “Rockin’ With the Ages 3,” a musical presented by Jackie Goldberg, The Pink Lady, now at the Victory Theatre, in Burbank.  Do you remember when rock was young? Well, you gotta hear some rock and roll music, and dance along as well, with the most talented, charming performers, this side of the Palm Springs Follies!  The songs of the 50’s and 60’s, sung by stars over age 60- what a show! Love was in the air, and the show takes us back to an innocent time… when men would dare to woo women through romantic love songs, while women would sing their man’s praises with “My Guy,” and never be afraid to speak their mind– “Hit the Road, Jack” or “Return to Sender,” the precurser to the delete email button!  In the days of New York musicals in all their glory, serenades and crooning, Rockin’ with the Ages covers a wide range of circumstances through its melodies — “Piano Man” and “Yesterday” elicit longings for what once was; while “Lean on Me” and “I’ll be There” bring up glimmers of hope for tomorrow.  My particular favorite is a re-creation of the Beatles’ “In My Life,” with lyrics so passionate and emotionally relevant universally.

By show’s end, the whole audience is brought to its feet, with standing ovations and uplifted spirits, as good times and happy memories are re-lived, and an imparting message: “Don’t stop trying until you can truly be… make all your dreams come true.”
